Feather meal is an excellent source of nitrogen. It is derived from keratin, a protein that occurs in hair, hoofs, horns and feathers. The structure of keratin is very tight and not easily broken down by soil, so it is softened by steam to make it more digestible to soil organisms. This attribute makes feathers an excellent medium to long-term source of nitrogen. Our feather meal is pelletized for dust reduction and ease of handling.
GENERAL APPLICATION:
Applications vary between 2 – 4 pounds for 100 square feet of garden soil, depending on nitrogen need. Feather meal is best utilized when lightly incorporated into the surface of the soil.
